The column was erected in memory of integration of the Crimea and Russia according to the Treaty of Kuchuk Kainarji concluded at the end of the Russo-Turkish War of 1768 – 1774. <br/>The 15 meters high column was made of a single piece of Uralian marble and transported to St. Petersburg on a cart pulled by 120 horses. Trophies decorative composition was made by artist G.I. Kozlov upon legalization of the integration of the Crimea and Russia in 1783. <br/>The composition includes Turkish banners, crescents, and arms.
