The Museum of the Benois Family was opened in September 1988 on the initiative of N. A. Benois (son of A. N. Benois and Chief Stage Designer of Teatro alla Scala in Milan, honorary member of the Academy of Arts of the USSR), with the support of English producer, actor and dramatist P. Ustinov (grandson of A. N. Benois) and other members of the family and relatives of the Benois. The collection of the museum included the archives of A. N. Benois, collections of his descendants E. B. Serebryakov, P. A. Braslavsky, and D. I. Vyshnegradsky, family relics, works of art (over 700 works all in all). Works by artists I. V. Nikolaev, M. M. Dedova- Dziaduszinska, S. P. Pavlinov, G. P. Felchakov, sculptors I. P. Ustinov, E. E. Lansere Jr., and architect V. E. Benois represent the young generation of the artists' dynasty. The exhibition is housed in the halls of the gala suite of the former House of Ladies in Waiting (1853-58, architect N. L. Benois, was restored according to the project by architect I. N.
