During the Great Patriotic War of 1941-45, he served in a partisan unit, where he was wounded. After demobilisation in 1944, he worked as an actor at the Voroshilovgrad Drama Theatre. In 1950, upon graduating from Shchepkin Drama School of Moscow, he began working as an actor at the Griboedov Russian Drama Theatre of Tbilisi, and in 1956 as an actor at the Lesya Ukrainka Russian Drama Theatre of Kiev. He moved to Leningrad in 1959, working as an actor at the Bolshoy Drama Theatre in 1959-65. His best-known roles include Chirkun (Barbarians by M. Gorky, 1959), Bonar (The Forth by K.M. Simonov, 1961), Gallen (They didn't Bow Down based on N. Douglas and G. Smith's play, 1961), and Nagulnov (Virgin Soil Upturned based on M.A. Sholokhov's novel, 1964). He left the BDT due to an illness of the legs (partial amputation undertaken), and concentrated on film (from 1954) and television. He acted in more than 20 films, including ShKID Republic (Kostalmed, directed by G.I. Poloka, 1966), and The White Sun in the Desert (Vereshchagin, directed by V.Y. Motyl, 1970). He played the part of Nozdrev in the screen version of Dead Souls directed by A.A. Belinsky (1969). Luspekaev is considered to be an actor of outstanding spirit, with a bright and stark character, unsurpassable naturalness, and absolute convincingness. Awarded the State Prize of the Russian Federation (1997, posthumously). Died in Moscow. Buried at Severnoe Cemetery in St. Petersburg.

Reference: Павел Луспекаев: Воспоминания об актере.
