\n \n MUESSAR'S MONDAYS (until 1912 The Society for Supporting Artists' Families), a charitable society of artists, patrons of the arts and arts lovers. It was established in 1881 on the initiative of the Privy Counsellor E.I. Muessar. Among the Society's members were Albert Benois, Vasily Vereshchagin, Anna Hansen, Nikolay Kravchenko, Iosif Krachkovsky, Konstantin Kryzhitsky, Arkhip Kuindzhi, Lev Lagorio, Vasily Mate, Nikolay Roerich, Mikhail Sudkovsky, et al. The Society operated as a club. They held weekly meetings at the following addresses: the Angliiskaya Embankment, 33 Galernaya Street, 24 Nevsky Prospect, in the Solyanoy Settlement). After the death of Muessar, the meetings were named Muessar's Mondays. Members organized joint drawing sittings, artistic lotteries, and concerts with opera, ballet and dramatic scenes. Concerts were most popular in 1910s, as they became significant events in Petersburg cultural life. Collected funds were used to pay allowances and pensions to artists' families. Muessar's Mondays stopped after 1917.
