Several of them were closely associated with St. Petersburg. Mikhail Illarionovich Vorontsov (1714-67) was a count (1744), statesman, diplomat, and active participant of the Palace Revolution of 1741 (brought the Preobrazhensky Life Guard Regiment over to Elizaveta Petrovna's side); from 1758, he was State Chancellor, a friend and patron of M.V. Lomonosov's, and owned the Vorontsov Palace. His brother was Roman Illarionovich Vorontsov (1707-83), count (1760), general en chef (1761), who was infamous for his corruption (known as \"Roman Big-Pocket\"). His daughters were E.R. Dashkova, and Elizaveta Romanovna Vorontsova (married name Polyanskaya), who was a favourite of Emperor Peter III's (1739-92). Their brothers included diplomats Alexander Romanovich Voronikhin (1741, St. Petersburg — 1805), count (1760), diplomat and statesman, state chancellor (1802-04), protector of A.N. Radishchev, a famous mason; and Semen Romanovich Vorontsov (1744-1832), count (1760), Infantry General (1797). One of the sons of the latter, Mikhail Semenovich Vorontsov (1782-1856), was a Gracious Prince (1852), General field marshal (1856), Hero of the Patriotic War of 1812, and fought in the wars with France of 1813-14.<br/><br/>References: Архив князя Воронцова.
