\n \n STARO-PETERGOFSKY AVENUE, called Yunogo Proletariya Avenue from 1922 to 1933, then known as Gaza Avenue until 1991, in honour of I.I. Gaza, a Bolshevist and a worker of Putilov Plant (1894-1933). It leads from the Fontanka River to Stachek Square. The avenue was laid in the 18th century as a part of Petergofskaya (Peterhof) Road (Petergofsky Avenue). House No. 29/1 accomodates the Metochion of the Valaam Monastery of the Holy Transfiguration; earlier the building accommodated the Metochion of the Monastery of the Holy Assumption in Staraya Ladoga. The site of house No. 6 was once occupied by St. Catherine's Church (architect K.A. Ton, 1831-37), in 1936-39 its place was taken by the Moskva Cinema (architect L.M. Khidekel, sculptor I.V. Krestovsky). House No. 20 is the former summer residence of the Stroganovs: it consists of the main building (the 1760s, rebuilt in the 1880s-90s) and two pavilions, which shaped the entrance to the territory of the manor. Now the pavilions are the part of the property of the Treugolnik Factory. Houses Nos.42-44 were occupied by F.E. Aziber's Canning Factory (architect Y.Y. Benois, 1887-89), while house Nos. 38-40 accommodated the Galvanoplastic Establishment (architect F.I. Rusca, 1844-45). Apartment houses Nos. 15, 16, 17 and 27 were built in the 1860s-90s.
