\n \n IGOVSKY AVENUE, running between Nekrasova Street and Moskovsky Avenue. Known as Ligovskaya Street until 1956. Constructed along the Ligovsky Canal track (hence the name) starting in 1891. In the 18th - 19th centuries, coachmen settlements, cabmen yards, taverns, dens, and small handicraft establishments existed along the road. The region was considered the bottom dregs of the city. In the middle of the 18th century, the Church of the Exaltation of the Holy Cross was constructed there, and in 1760s, the Church of Our Lady of Tikhvin was erected; in 1810-12, a 2-tiered belfry was added to form a single combined architectural structure. In 1869, the exemplary Prince P.G. Oldenburgsky Children's Hospital was established (building no 8, today the Rauchfus Children's Hospital), and in 1869-71, the Women's Evangelical Hospital was opened (building no. 2-4, architects R.B. Bernhard, O.G. Gippius). In the 1870s, the F.K. San Galli Iron Foundry and Mechanic Plant complex, with its meltal-works, administrative and residential quarters, was constructed at building no. 58-62). Early 20th century Art Nouveau constructions of great interest include buildings nos. 91 and 125 (architect A.L. Lishnevsky); buildings nos. 139, 149, 154 (architect B.Y. Zonn); and buildings nos. 175, 198 (architect N.I. Tovstoles). The Znamenskaya Hotel (today the Oktyabrskaya Hotel) and the Select Hotel (building no. 44, 1910-11, architects S.P. Galenzovsky, I.A. Pretro) are both on Ligovsky Avenue. After the October 1917 Revolution, a comprehensive development of the territory was undertaken, with waste grounds and small buildings being demolished. In the 1960-80s, Ligovsky Avenue was reconstructed (architect Y.G. Kruglyakov). Today, Ligovsky Avenue includes the Oktyabrsky Grand Concert Hall (1967, architect A.V. Zhuk) and the Esenin Library and Museum (building no. 215). F.M. Dostoevsky lived in building no. 25, V.G. Korolenko in building no. 29, and N.I. Kibalchich in building no. 83. Building no. 73 houses the Bread Museum.
