\n \n KRONVERKSKY AVENUE, between Troitskaya Square and Mytninskaya Embankment, on the Petrogradskaya Side; its semicircular arch includes the territory of Alexandrovsky Park. The avenue was constructed in the first half of the 18th century. In the first third of the 19th century, the section up to Kamennoostrovsky Avenue was called Konnaya Street, and the rest of the street was known as \"the road near the esplanade.\" The street's modern name appeared in 1845 (after Kronverk). In 1932-91, Kronverksky Avenue bore Maxim Gorky's name. Architectural highlights along Kronverksky Avenue include the former Kschessinska Mansion (building 1/2; today the Museum Of Russian Political History); building no. 5 (1913-15, architect A.I. Klein); building no. 7, the Mosque Cathedral; building no. 9, a dormitory (1932, architect G.A. Simonov); building no. 23 (1911-12, architect E.L. Morozov); building no. 37 (1930s, architect V.O. Munz); building no. 49, the former House of City Establishments (today the Institute of Fine Mechanics and Optics); building no. 65 (1936, architect Y.O. Rubanchik); building no. 73 (1948, architect N.M. Nazarin); and building no. 77 (1911-12, architect K.K. Schmidt). Building no. 1/2 was frequented by V.I. Lenin in 1917; M. Gorky lived in building no. 23 in 1914-21, and Bulgarian revolutionary D. Blagoev lived in building no. 51. In 1968, a monument to M. Gorky was erected at the intersection of Kronverksky Avenue and Kamennoostrovsky Avenue.
