\n \n PERINNAYA LINE lying along Bolshoy Gostiny Dvor between Nevsky Prospect and Lomonosova Street. In the mid-to-late 19th century, it was known as Surovskaya, or Bolshaya Surovskaya, Line (Textile Line) so named because of the goods sold in the line. It was named Perinnaya Line (Featherbed Line) in 1880s after the complex of shops that was built by architect G. Quarenghi in 1797-98 and overbuilt in 1938 between Bolshoy Gostiny Dvor and the City Duma. After the complex was demolished during the construction of Nevsky Prospect metro station in 1963, Perinnaya Line and Dumskaya Street became a single area. The shopping centre was restored in 2000-02. It is decorated with a six-column Doric portico designed by architect L. Rusca in 1802-06 and restored by architect M. I. Tolstov with a few changes to proportions in 1971-72.
