In the second half of the 18th century it was Third Matveevskaya Street (after St. Matthew’s Church), since the late 18th century - Ospenny Lane (Ospennaya Street) and Second Monetnaya Street. The modern name was given in the 1830s after the settlement of workers of the Mint - coiners (\"monetchiki\"), who used to live there. In 1922-91, it was called Skorokhodova Street - after the first Chairman of Petrograd Executive Committee of the District Soviet of People\"s Deputies A.K. Skorokhodov (1880-1919). The majority of buildings date back to the late 19th - 20th centuries: Building 18 (1915, architect Y.G. Gevirtz), Building 22 (1908, architect A.I. Balinsky), Building 23 (1910, architect N.A. Vitashevsky), Building 27 (1903, technician N.N. Klimenko). Buildings owned by Master of the Horse Prince K.A. Gorchakov, the son of Prince A.M. Gorchakov, are of special cultural and historical interest: Building 17 (1893-95, military engineer N.A. Arkhangelsky, reconstructed in 1907-10 by architect A.R. Havemann) and Building 19 (1901-03, architect Havemann). Later, they were acquired by the public figure and entrepreneur A.N. Bryanchaninov. Under the Soviets, the buildings were occupied by Petrograd Workers and the Committee of Communist Party of the Soviet Union. In 1981, a wing connecting two buildings was constructed (architects J.M. Verzhbitsky, L.I. Shimakovsky and A.L. Stolyarchuk). On the street, the following renowned men lived: poet А.A. Blok (Building 21/9, 1912), artist B.D. Grekov (Building 21/9, 1912), the botanist and geographer A.N. Beketov.

References: Привалов В. Д. Улица Скороходова // БА. 1970. № 8. С. 40-48; Харламов И. Н. Дома князей Горчаковых.
