The road was constructed in the 1740s, according to a project by the St. Petersburg Construction Commission. The section up to Razyezzhaya Street was called Bolotnaya Street until 1871, and the section between Razyezzhaya Street and Volokolamsky Lane was called Bogorodskaya Street. In 1887, the two streets were united under the name Kolomenskaya Street (after the town of Kolomna in the Moscow Province). The majority of its buildings date back to the late 19th - early 20th centuries, including building no. 10, which was architect F.F. Lumberg's private house (1911); building no. 12, which was N.I. Kirzhakov and I.I. Semenov's apartment house, and which featured an Old Believers Chapel (1911, architect P.P. Pavlov); building no. 13, which was N.I. Dyrenkov's apartment house (1912, technician L.V. Bogussky); building no. 14, which was O.L. Kleinadel's apartment house (1896-98, architect B.I. Girshovich); and building no. 15 was I.S. Semenov's apartment house (1879-81, architect A.L. Holm). Several well-known figures lived on the street, including historian L.N. Gumilev (building no. 1, 1990-92), composer M.A. Balakirev (building no. 7, 1882-1910), V.I. Lenin and G.M. Krzhizhanovsky (building no. 7, 1895), actor N.N. Khodotov (building no. 42, 1900s), writer V.V. Rozanov (building no. 33, 1912-16), and ballet dancer A.P. Pavlova (building no. 3, 1900s).

Reference: Никандров В.
