SIMON AND ANNA CHURCH, located at 46 Mokhovaya Street. An architectural monument, one of the oldest religious buildings in St. Petersburg. The church was constructed in 1731-34 (architect M. G. Zemtsov) in style of the Petrine Baroque with the elements of Old Russian architecture. It was located on the site of a wooden church of 1712-14. The building had three altars and a high belfry of 47 metres. The main building had a high illuminated dome drum, crowned with a cupola with an intricate pattern. The iconostasis was done by engraver K. Gan and icons painters A. M. Matveev and V. I. Vasilevsky. In 1803-08, a sacristy and a chapel were attached to the building by architect M. P. Vyborov. Until 1802, the church had belonged to the Imperial Court. In 1869-72, it was extended and renovated (architect G. I. Winterhalter). The Icon of Our Lady the Three-Handed, dating to the early 18th century, now held in St. Nicholas Cathedral, was especially revered. The Poor Aid Society that kept an orphanage and a hospital functioned here from 1868. In 1938, the church was closed down, and its property and decor were pillaged. The building was turned into a storehouse. In 1951-54, the building was restored, and in the 1980s housed a meteorological museum. In 1991, the building was returned to the faithful, and in 1995 consecrated anew. From the name of the church came the former name of Belinskogo Street - Simeonovskaya Street.

References: Камнев И. Церковь свв. прр.
