\n \n MIKHAILOV (Mikhailov II) Andrey Alexeevich (1773 - 1849, St. Petersburg), architect, lecturer. To discern himself from his brother, named himself Mikhailov II. Since 1779, studied at the educational school of the Petersburg Academy of Fine Arts, followed by studies at the Academy of Fine Arts in the classes of architects F.I. Volkov, I.E. Starov, A.D. Zakharov. Upon graduation from the Academy of Fine Arts (1794), took up a teaching post there; from 1800, was conferred the title of associate academy member; from 1811, that of professor; from 1814, of professor emeritus. Among his early works representative of the Neoclassicism are the building of the Russian Academy (1802-04, 52 First Line of Vasilievsky Island) and St. Catherine's Church (1811-23, 27 Syezdovskaya Line), surmounted by a large cupola crowned with an angel's figure. Emulating ancient Greek models, Mikhailov erected in the garden of the Academy of Fine Arts, a monumental building of the Graphic Arts Department (1819-21). Along with C.I. Rossi worked on the creation of the Mikhailovskaya Street ensemble. The front interiors of the Counts Bobrinsky Palace (1822-25, 60 Galernaya Street) and Yusupov Palace (1830-38, 94 Moika River Embankment), with a built-on new wing, are Mikhailov's works. In 1823-25, he extended the building of the Patriotic Institute (1823-25, 3 Tenth Line of Vasilievsky Island, rebuilt). A.I. Korsakov's house, designed by Mikhailov (1826-28, 12 Vladimirsky Avenue) is a vivid sample of the late Empire style.
