\n \n KONYUSHENNAYA SQUARE is located between Konyushenny Lane and Griboedova Canal, and was laid out beginning in the 1720s and over the course of the Stables Department's construction of its buildings complex (house No 1, 1720-23, architect N. F. Gerbel, rebuilt in 1810, architect L. Rusca, 1817-23, architect V. P. Stasov). It received its name in 1739. The symmetric facade along Konyushennaya Square includes the Church of the Court Stables (see Holy Face Church of the Court Stables), which is linked by two-story wings with side pavilions. The south side of Konyushennaya Square houses the Stables Museum. In the rear of the main building, one can still find aspects of the Stables Yard, such as a cart house, and workshops (mid-18th century - the 1840s). Today, the Taxi Transport Operation Enterprise operates in house No 1, and the Central Taxi Transport Control Station in house No 2. The eastern edge of Konyushennaya Square opens onto a magnificent view of the Holy Resurrection Cathedral, (Spas-na-Krovi). Konyushennaya Square is adjacent to Bolshaya Konyushennaya Street. Y. М.
