\n \n MANORS AND DACHAS. Within the precincts of modern St. Petersburg a number of the 18th -19th centuries manors and dachas (summer residences) have been preserved, also there are some fragments of manors on Petergofskaya (Peterhof) road, such as the dacha of E.R. Dashkova Kiryanovo (45 Stachek Avenue; the manor house with four-columned portico and semicircular outbuildings was constructed in 1783-1784 to the design developed by the mistress herself, perhaps with the assistance of G. Quarenghi); the dacha of I.G. Chernyshev Alexandrino (226 Stachek Avenue; the 1770s, architect J.B. Vallin de la Mothe, the main building, with the composition reminiscent of the Tauride Palace, was burnt to ashes during the Great Patriotic War, reconstructed in the 1960s, architect M.M. Plotnikov). The main building of the manor Novo-Znamenka (14 Chekistov Street), owned by Count M.I. Vorontsov, was constructed in 1755-1760 following architectural plans drawn up probably by architect A. Rinaldi; later, under new owners, the Myatlev family, in 1829-30 a gothic outbuilding was constructed nearby. On the right bank of the Neva River (40 Sverdlovskaya Embankment) the architectural complex of the manor of Kushelevy-Bezborodko family has survived, on Malaya Okhta (2 Utkin Avenue) there is a complex the Utkina dacha, that belonged to the Chief of Secret Chancellery Count A.I. Ushakov. In the 1790s, when A.A. Poltoratskaya stayed the owner of the manor, a house with a striking semirotunda at the corner and a bow-shaped outbuilding was constructed. At the confluence of Zhernovka Stream and the Okhta (9 Irinovsky Avenue) stands the preserved manor of A.K. Nartov Zhernovka. For its new owner M.I. Donaurov, in the 1780s-90s, a new manor house with classical portico and unique frescos in the interior was erected to the designs of G. Quarenghi. The extensive landscape park has been lost; the house was restored in 1980-84. Unique examples of the so-called wooden Neoclassicism are seen in the dachas of Golovin at 63 Vyborgskaya Embankment (1823-1824, architect L. I. Charlemagne) and Shishmarev family at 87 Primorsky Avenue (1824-1825, architect A.I. Melnikov). At 7 Malaya Nevka River Embankment, there is the dacha of Prince V.V. Dolgorukov (1831-1832, architect S.L. Shustov). The double-storied cubical construction with a central domed hall is emphasized with a wide portico-balcony from the side of the embankment. In the 1840s the dacha was reconstructed for the Prince P.G. Oldenburg (architect A. I. Stakensсhneider). In the early 1980s, it was altered to a dormitory but burnt down, was reconstructed in different material with wooden facing. At 4 Akademika Krylova Street (near Chernaya Rechka metro station) the dacha complex of Duchess E.P. Saltykova is located. The main house, outbuildings and gate (1837-1843, architect P.S. Sadovnikov, G.E. Bosse) are an impressive example of the romantic architecture of the epoch of Historicism (restored in 1990-1996). Summer residences in Eclecticism, Art Nouveau and Neoclassical styles determine the appearance of Kamenny Island. Close to the northern boundary of St. Petersburg along Vyborgskoe Freeway in the village Osinovaya Roscha the park of the manor owned by Princes Vyazemsky has survived, a wooden house in Neoclassical style (1828-1830, architect V.I. Beretti), that once stood there, burnt down in 1991. Pargolovo features an extensive manor complex with a palace in Neoclassical style (1912-1914, architect S.S. Krichinsky). In the Shuvalovsky Park among the middle of the 18th to the first third of the 19th century constructions there is St. Peter&Paul Church (1831-1839, architect A. P. Bryullov) in the style of the false Gothic.
